The scholar

One of the most gratifying parts of parenting has been introducing books to James: characters become part of his play, he giggles at the right places, he goes through weeks of listening to a favorite CD every day.

So far we've read:
The Hobbit (2x, with Liam)
Chronicles of Narnia (7)
Ivanhoe (2x, adapted, with Liam)
Treasure Island (2x, adapted, with Liam)
James and the Giant Peach
Fantastic Mr Fox
Wizard of Oz
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (with Liam)
The Princess and the Goblins (2x, with Liam)
The Princess and Curdie (with Liam)
The Wind in the Willows (some chapters numerous times, with Liam)
White Fang (adapted)
Just So Stories (first few chapters - this was a bit beyond him)
Winnie the Pooh
Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth (adapted, on CD)
Charlotte's Web (just started)
Catherine Vos' Bible Storybook (almost finished and about to start over)

(Here he is drawing a map of the world, which includes Ocean City and "the country where Jesus was born"):

Good for y'all--those boys are probably more well-read than some adults!! C. Webb was a favorite. Afterward, we made a spider craft and watched the movie. The latter may have been a mistake--Sophie boo-hooed several times.

We loved W in the W, too. Nathan does voices-hilarious.

It's especially exciting when they reread these books on their own after they've heard them read aloud. Hope you're all getting pumped for kindergarten!!

Becca, you have to hear Winnie the Pooh with Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer - so hilarious.
