James, can you say "empathize"?

Today started out great, but as the afternoon wore on, one thing after another led to my coming dangerously close to a meltdown. Tiredness from a crying baby the night before, same baby continuing to cry, toddler saying "mama come over here" 50 million times no matter what my response is ("mama's getting dinner together" "wow James I can see you from here!" "mama will come in a minute" "that's a cool train you made there!" "mama will come in a minute" "mama is making dinner" "mama will come in a minute"), the discovery of soaking wet patches of carpet and an apparently faulty hot-water heater, did I mention the tiredness? And the crying?

Anyway, I cried. I stood in the kitchen and cried, and James came to see what the deal was since I hadn't responded to the last 12 mama-come-over-heres. I told him mama was sad. He looked concerned. He watched me for a little bit. And then he made me cry some more: "Mama hit on ee hofa. Air's my bankee? I take care of you mama." And he ran to find his blankie, I sat on the sofa, and he covered me with blankie and pretended to cry with me.

His sweetness just breaks my heart. I love this boy.
