Yesterday we went horseback riding for Katie's birthday at a place called "Cowboy Town" in North Nashville. It was a little crazy, as the wranglers seemed to have a hard time coordinating who was riding what horse or how many horses were even needed. There was a family of 3 who told the wranglers they were experienced riders, when they had only ridden three times previously. It was a situation I'd seen many times before - the father claims he and his children are experienced, and when they can't ride a horse they blame it on the wranglers for giving them bad horses. Anyway, we had a good time, riding as we were with at least 10 horses separating me and Katie. Katie's butt is feeling the pain today, but we had fun and I think it was a successful week-late birthday celebration. Afterwards we enjoyed a quiet meal together, which is as rare as it is wonderful.
Tonight was our Sunday night fellowship dinner at the Powell's. Doug and Barbara were wonderful hosts - and they have a trampoline, which is always fun. James loves being in the limelight. He's taken to fake laughing whenever others are laughing, which is hilarious. Page Kelly is working on brewing beers named after the five points of Calvinism. We enjoyed his wheat beer tonight, called "Total Depravity Ale - Unworthy, Not Unloved". We enjoyed pork barbeque that fortunately was not pulled from unconditionally elected swine, but from only the finest hogs around. I tried not to eat too much, but the graciousness of our hosts was simply irresistable. I never thought I'd get through that last piece of apple pie, but like a true saint, I persevered all the way through the last bite...all by the grace of God, of course. Calvin would be proud (if he knew what the 5 points of Calvinism were). Oh, and I couldn't think of anything clever for limited atonement, in case anyone notices its absence.

How about eight months post-post I post a comment? This entry is particularly funny, but I enjoy all the commentary and photos. You and Katie should do stand-up, as they say. And, really, your senses of humor will go a long way toward being able to persevere as saints.
